  • Beloved sci-fi classic “The X Files” is officially coming back. Fox announced a six-episode “event series” that will reunite stars David Duchovney, Gillian Anderson and series creator Chris Carter.

Production will begin this summer, making it nearly thirteen years since the legendary series has been on the air. There were those two movies, the most recent of which — “The X Files: I Want to Believe” — came out in 2008. But it’s unclear if they will affect the plot of the new episodes.

Speaking about the long wait, Carter said, “I think of it as a 13-year commercial break.” The implication that agents Mulder and Scully will pick up right where they left off: working unexplainable cases (the titular “x files”) with a paranormal bent.

“The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories,” Carter said.

During its initial nine-season run, the show racked up 16 Emmy awards and became one of the longest-running sci-fi shows of all time. With the long wait finally over, it’s time to ask: is thirteen years enough time for Agent Scully to finally come around to the paranormal?
