  • “I’m not going to cry, it’s not going to be that kind of situation,” Jack Black says in the beginning of this powerful segment from NBC’s Red Nose Day event. Black surely means what he says, but then he meets a young Ugandan boy named Felix and things get heavy. 12-year-old Felix has been living on the street for three years. His mother is dead, he never knew his father. Felix scrapes by selling plastic bottles to recycling centers. It’s a heart wrenching story, and it has a clear effect on Black.

Jack Black was one of the many comedians who helped out on Red Nose Day. The event was a fundraiser to raise money and awareness for children living in poverty in America and around the world. Felix, a homeless orphan, is an example of the many children Red Nose Day hopes to help. His dream is to have an education. Jack Black said he wouldn’t cry, but how can you possibly respond to a young orphan earnestly asking if he can come home with you. We would hope everyone would have the emotional reaction Black had to this painfully common story.
