Taylor Swift Performs “Ronan” For Mother Who Lost Her Son To Cancer

  • In the most emotional moment of Taylor Swift’s “1989” world tour happened last night during the Glendale, Arizona show. For the first time since the Stand Up To Cancer telethon in 2012, Taylor performed “Ronan” – a song written in tribute to a four year old boy who lost his battle with cancer. Ronan’s mom Maya kept up a blog during Ronan’s journey with cancer, which Taylor found and read consistently – leading her to write “Ronan” and releasing the song to raise money for child cancer research.

Maya Thompson and her family were in attendance at last night’s concert, so Taylor opened up about how Maya’s blog affected Taylor’s life. Taylor also touched on her personal struggle with cancer in her own life, with her mother being recently diagnosed with cancer.

  • I was actually in attendance for the first, and until now, only performance of “Ronan” in front of a small audience at LA’s Shrine Auditorium. Having witnessed that, and actually watching as Taylor broke down in tears after the cameras were off after the performance – makes me feel like even Taylor’s naysayers would find the authenticity in Taylor’s intentions for the song.

After the concert, Maya took to Instagram to thank Taylor for not forgetting Ronan’s story over the years.
