  • Looks like Burger King’s attempt to make peace with McDonald’s for a good cause has only made things worse.

Burger King teamed up with the organization Peace One Day to make a proposal to McDonald’s for Peace Day on September 21: a one-day “cease fire” where an Atlanta location will sell a “McWhopper” – a combination of both restaurants’ flagship burger.

But McDonald’s didn’t take too kindly to the PR tactic, which left them with the choice of rejecting a Peace Day project or following Burger King’s lead – so CEO Steve Easterbrook went to Facebook and shot it down:

    Dear Burger King,

Inspiration for a good cause… great idea.

We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference.

We commit to raise awareness worldwide, perhaps you’ll join us in a meaningful global effort?

And every day, let’s acknowledge that between us there is simply a friendly business competition and certainly not the unequaled circumstances of the real pain and suffering of war.

    We’ll be in touch.

    -Steve, McDonald’s CEO

P.S. A simple phone call will do next time.

Oof. He kind of had a point, but it got lost in all that snark and condescension. And now the internet’s mad. Wonder how this will all play out.
