Columbia’s Misguided “Consent Is Bae” Campaign – #WTFem

Good intentions, Columbia University, but that’s not really the way young people talk.

In response to heightened attention to sexual assault on college campuses, Columbia has joined other universities in requiring Sexual Respect training for all students. Unfortunately, their marketing campaign uses the phrase “Consent is Bae,” which 1) sounds ridiculous, 2) might be a bit too flippant for the issue of sexual assault and 3) also might be appropriating African American Vernacular English, according to the internet.

The semester hasn’t even started yet and already this is becoming a widespread internet joke and the subject of a Jezebel article. But hey, people are talking about consent now and that was the goal of the campaign, so … let’s call that a win?
