Twitter has officially ditched the star in favor of the heart!

Product manager Akarshan Kumar said in a blog post, “We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers. You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite.”
Favorites have been with Twitter nearly since its inception in 2006, but the company recently turned towards the heart symbol after field testing it with users earlier this year. Twitter saw a sharp jump in usage when the star was replaced with a simple heart.
Kumar elaborated in the blog post that the star could have been confusing to newcomers, and added “… The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people. And in our tests, we found that people loved it.”
While some aren’t particularly happy with the change, we feel it won’t be long before people forget there were ever any stars to begin with.
