  • This is not your typical video about freebooting.

Creator Kurzgesagt (In a Nutshell) breaks down how Facebook’s most recent announcement is actually made of lies and theft. While we’ve talked about freebooting before, this video doesn’t just discuss the practice itself and how most videos on Facebook are stolen, but how “freebooting” and Facebook’s choice to turn a blind eye to the problem is actively affecting creators bottom line.

It delves into the way the site handles video and how the content reporting system is broken, and how the company does not factor content creators, instead focusing on the achievements in what appears to be an attempt to mask the issue.

It’s impossible for creators to find their stolen content via search and usually by the time the content is pulled, the videos have gotten all the views they can get.

    So what can you do?

Only creators can report content as stolen, so the best way to go about it is to alert the creator of the stolen content and link to the original video in the comment section.
