Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and you’re probably about to eat a lot of food with your family and then fall asleep on the couch while watching football – but do you really know what this holiday is all about?

Here in Los Angeles, the only way to deal with questions like this is to grab a microphone, go to Hollywood and quiz people on the street so we can chuckle knowingly when they don’t get the answer quite right.

Sure, we had to spend some quality time on Wikipedia and write ourselves a cheat sheet before we did it, but that’s beside the point.

A few very good sports on Hollywood Boulevard tackled some trivia questions about the holiday, including what the first Thanksgiving was about, what year it took place, which Founding Father suggested that turkeys should be our national bird and which ship did the Pilgrims come over on. There were some slip-ups – the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria were for Columbus Day, silly! Oh yeah, and the beautiful feast between the pilgrims and Indians did not end well- but we’re not going to try to simplify a 500-year old geopolitical war in a quick man on the street segment or this blog.

For the questions of what Thanksgiving means to them and what they’re most grateful for, everyone had good answers. (I’m grateful for my iPhone too, kid.)
