  • You know those awful moments when you’re at a party and you crack a joke in front of a bunch of people and try to be all sassy and cute, and instead you just come across as rude and everyone laughs awkwardly, and you spend the next three days reliving that moment and groaning about what a moron you are?

    (No? Just me? Okay.)

That’s kind of the situation Jennifer Lawrence finds herself in today. Last night she was being interviewed at the post-Golden Globes press conference for her Best Actress win for “Joy,” when a foreign journalist with a heavy accent started asking her a question while holding up his phone.

“You can’t live your whole life behind your phone, bro,” she cut him off, wagging her finger. “You can’t do that – you gotta live in the now.”

When the flustered reporter apologized and asked her how she saw herself on “Oscar night,” she interrupted again: “We’re at the Golden Globes. If you’d put your phone down, you’d know that.”

As popular as Lawrence is for her relentlessly down-to-earth personality, she’s managed to annoy a fair number of people on the internet for being insensitive at times and making off-color jokes. This incident didn’t exactly help.

  • But another reporter named Chris Trondsen said on Twitter that he was there in the front row and it didn’t happen the way the internet says it did:

  • Trondsen also said the foreign reporter laughed along with everyone else and the mood was lighthearted – but that didn’t translate very well in the clip, which makes Lawrence seem blunt and impatient. Not the best look.
