  • The general public is honestly, extremely aware that Leonardo DiCaprio has deserved to win an Oscar for his unbelievable performances year after year. He gets the nomination, we cross our fingers, but the star stays seated…until last night. Finally, The Revenant movie gave Leo the chance to really prove himself, and on behalf of most people, we are totally thrilled!

  • After six nominations over the years, when Leo took the stand, so did the audience. It’s clear he wasn’t the only one waiting for this moment as the crowd jumped from their seats to give him a standing ovation.

However, the star didn’t even make his speech about himself at all. In fact, he used his time on stage to educate the public about the very real issue of climate change.

“Climate change is real, and it’s happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating,” DiCaprio said. “We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world…and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed.”

As he thanked the world, he also tried to change it by delivering a beautifully-worded and thoughtful speech. I think it shows his dedication to the character he played in a movie that really seems to have influenced his perspective and way of life. Truly, an award-winning human being, and Lady Gaga agrees.

  • On the other hand (literally), was he subconsciously trying to send The Academy a little message?

  • No yeah, we totally feel that, too. I mean, it was a long time coming…
