  • A while back, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star John Boyega crushed many gay ‘shipper hearts when he said that his Stormtrooper character Finn and Resistance pilot Poe Dameron were only romantically linked “in Oscar Isaac’s head” and the relationship wasn’t canon.

  • Poe fin
  • NOPE, NOT GAY AT ALL. At least not yet.

Since then, however, J.J. Abrams has said that gay characters will be featured in the Star Wars universe. “To me, the fun of Star Wars is the glory of possibility. So it seems insanely narrow-minded and counterintuitive to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world.”

So if the filmmakers don’t come to their senses and let Finn and Poe be happy together (or at least give us some freaking angst, I mean come on), who could the first gay character be? Why not shoot for the moon and go with Luke Skywalker? The only girl he ever showed the slightest interest in was his sister, by accident – it’s not impossible.

You won’t get any arguments from Mark Hamill, either:

”[F]ans are writing and asking all these questions: ‘I’m bullied in school … I’m afraid to come out.’ They say to me: ‘Could Luke be gay?’ I’d say it is meant to be interpreted by the viewer. If you think Luke is gay, of course he is. You should not be ashamed of it. Judge Luke by his character, not by who he loves.”

That ought to keep fans satisfied for the time being – except for all the “political correctness gone wild” people who hate any cultural changes to the franchise whatsoever.
