  • A second full-length trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows has been released today, offering more hints about the upcoming summer blockbuster. The brothers will once again have to stop the sinister threats the Shredder has unleashed upon the world while new baddies from another dimension threaten New York City.

This latest Out of the Shadows trailer continues to showcase a livelier, energetic movie than the more serious origin story/reboot that arrived in theaters in 2014. It feels like a completely different movie. They’re steering the property away from the gritty superhero tropes and more toward the fun, radical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we know and love from the cartoons, from the present and the ‘90s.

While the trailer presents some gnarly actions sequences, the plot poses one serious question: should the turtles change themselves in order to fit in? It’s a question that hasn’t really been asked out right like that before and it’s intriguing to see how the film tackles this unique proposition the turtles face. Maybe if they had female teenage mutant ninja turtles than this wouldn’t pose an issue for our heroes?

Here’s the official plot synopsis, courtesy of Paramount Pictures:

“Michelangelo, Donatello, Leonardo, and Raphael return to theaters this summer to battle bigger, badder villains, alongside April O’Neil (Megan Fox), Vern Fenwick (Will Arnett), and a newcomer: the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones (Stephen Amell). After supervillain Shredder (Brian Tee) escapes custody, he joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry) and two dimwitted henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), to unleash a diabolical plan to take over the world. As the Turtles prepare to take on Shredder and his new crew, they find themselves facing an even greater evil with similar intentions: the notorious Krang.”

Directed by Dave Green (Earth to Echo), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows stars Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Johnny Knoxville as the voice of Leonardo, Jeremy Howard as Donatello, Noel Fisher as Michaelangelo, Tony Shalhoub as the voice of Master Splinter, as well as the others mentioned above.
