Tituss Burgess, star of Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and, as of today, two-time Emmy nominee, made waves across the internet this week for something other than his incredible singing voice. Burgess posted a scathing review of an NYC moving company that he called “the most unprofessional workers” he has ever dealt with — in no small part because of the horrific slur they used against him.

Burgess also tweeted a screenshot of what he claims is his text message conversation with someone from the company, in which that person calls him a homophobic slur. Here’s the tweet:

Like in every other case where a Yelp review goes viral — Amy’s Baking Company and Sia’s revenge on a dry cleaner come to mind — the moving company’s Yelp page has been inundated by one-star reviews. Here’s their Yelp page if you want to read some of them. (Be aware, though, that Yelp is monitoring reviews closely due to the company’s newsworthy status and will probably delete any angry review you try to add.)
For what it’s worth, the moving company has released a statement about the incident on their website. According to them, this is all a misunderstanding and someone other than them is using their name to conduct business. Here’s their full statement:
Dear Tituss! We are very sorry for fatal misunderstanding. But we have never spoken with you by phone. We never reserve our trucks and crews via phone. It is rule! Our process is next: a customer send us request via website thn a customer must confirm a move plan via email. If you have phone number, saved chat and messages please provide us. We never ask our customer about good reviews before a move. And of course our dispatcher never threatens to our customers. We are very small Company and we watch our reputation. It would be an honor to help Tituss Burgess for us. We would try to do our best. But we suspect that someone is using our good Company name and our reputation. We have appealed to USDOT for help to find cheaters. Please help us with any information about those guys. Please contact with our Owner for the discuss. Thank you in advance. We are using only follow phones number: (888) 506-MOVING (6684); (212) 2357707; (917) 754 5777. We are ready to give you any evidences that we did not have any requests from you.
So what’s the real truth? Hell if I know. Whoever texted Burgess that nasty word should definitely be ashamed, though.
