  • Justin Bieber might as well just be an Internet Explorer meme at this point, because he is hella late to the #TaylorSwiftIsOverParty. Two weeks after the epic Twitter/Snapchat battle between Taylor Swift and, well, everyone, J-Biebs decided to take a side. To the surprise of precisely no one, he went with the Kardashian-West clan.

Late last night, Bieber posted this pic to his Instagram:

  • In the image, Bieber is seen using the FaceTime messaging service with none other than Kanye West himself. He captioned the post with the somehow both vague and clear message “Taylor swift what up” — a caption that is vague in that it doesn’t explicitly take a stand, and clear in that what else could it possibly mean?

Commenters were quick to take sides, with both #TeamBieber and #SHUTUPJUSTIN appearing in droves in the comments on the image. #TaylorSwiftWhatUp became a globally trending hashtag on Twitter, as well; see some examples of the trend in the video above.

There’s been an undercurrent of tension between Bieber and Swift for years. Back in 2013, she appeared disgusted at the Billboard Music Awards when Bieber and his then-girlfriend Selena Gomez shared a kiss:

  • (Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift, for the record, are best buds — no question whose side Swift took in the breakup.)

There’s even more backstory between Bieber and Swift. Bieber’s song “All Bad” is rumored to be a diss track about Swift, a rumor seemingly confirmed by Bieber retweeting (then deleting) a tweet saying so. And Swift’s mega-hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” got some conspiracy theorists buzzing that it’s actually about Gomez and Bieber’s relationship.

Swift, for her part, hasn’t responded to any of the craziness. Her Twitter has been silent since she first responded to the legendary Kim Kardashian Snapchat that blew this feud up to epic proportions.
