  • Do you remember the Underworld franchise? It’s been awhile.

The first film launched in 2003, and told a story of vampires vs. lycans (werewolves) — before Twilight was a thing. It starred Kate Beckinsale as a vampire hunting the lycans, and ultimately falling in love with a human who became a vampire-lycan hybrid.

It went on to spawn three more films between 2003 and 2012, before rumors of a reboot began circulating. Instead, Underworld: Blood Wars was announced as a continuation to be released in 2017.

The new film will bring back Beckinsale as Selene, and will also star Theo James (who was in the fourth installment). Not too much is known about the plot yet, but the newly released trailer teases an escalation of the vampire-lycan war (shocking) as the lycans go after Selene’s blood with promises of immortality. Um, or maybe somehow more immortality than mythical creatures already have. Either way, it looks to be as fun as the previous films, and we’re totally ready for it.
