  • “You’ve got mail”. That’s the first thing people heard when opening up AOL in the early internet days. It’s not something we hear anymore. But that’s partially because the voice behind “you’ve got mail” is now an Uber driver. It’s another late-in-life transition, like old people doing the nae nae.

Meet Elwood Edwards. He’s a voice actor, and “you’ve got mail” is his best-known role. It’s not television or film, but perhaps being one of the first internet voices is better. A lot of people used AOL so a lot of people know Edwards’ voice.

It’s a happy coincidence that Elwood was driving for Uber and found a passenger old enough to remember the “you’ve got mail” voice greeting. The person behind the camera got him to do it on camera. Watch the original video below:

  • People are wanting Elwood to become a voice actor again. The problem with commercial acting is that you can become type cast. Perhaps people remember “you’ve got mail” too well?
