  • It’s been a great year for viral content and we have one more to add to the pile before 2016 is done with!

So you’re scrolling down YouTube Boulevard, which is what I’m calling YouTube.com from now on— you’re scrolling down YouTube Boulevard when a title pops out at you. Something like MURDERER AT SCHOOL.

Your heart stops. A murderer!? At a school!? This I have to see!? Then the video plays and there’s no murderer at a school! Just a kid running around! These alarmist clickbaity titles are dumb and confusing, and Twitter has been having a field day with them with the rapidly spreading “Storytime Meme”, where Twitter users take a normal story and try to sensationalize it!

The “Storytime” aspects refers to the genre where someone sits in front of a video and says “Storytime”. Look, guys. Your real lives are compelling enough. You don’t have to spin your stories into chaos. Here are some of our favorite examples of the Storytime Meme.

  • Oo let me try one. AMERICA’S BIGGEST VIDEO COMPANY IS A NETHERWORLD OF UNTRUTHS READY TO COLLAPSE! Ugh, I bet I could do better than that. How about— I ALMOST DIED: THE RAVAGES OF TIME AGED ME A LITTLE BIT AS I WROTE THIS ARTICLE. I’ll work on it.
