  • JK Rowling, every year, on the anniversary of the fiction Battle of Hogwarts, does an annual tradition of apologizing for one of the deaths in her beloved children’s series, Harry Potter, and normally look — it’s a pretty regular affair. An apology for offing Cedric Diggory here, an I’m sorry for killing off some shmuck in the battle of Hogwarts there, but this year’s apology was a controversial one, as it was an apology for killing — Severus Snape!

Spoilers ahead for those not weaned well on the lore of Harry Potter — for those of you who don’t know, Severus Snape was the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor who seemed, on his face, to loathe Harry Potter and to secretly align himself with the armies of Voldermort. This reached a point of no return when Severus Snape killed Dumbeldore, Hogwarts’ beloved headmaster. Later, it was revealed Snape did everything he did with the knowledge of Dumbeldore, to infiltrate the dark wizards and to save Harry Potter, and did so because he was still in love with Lily Potter — Harry Potter’s mother who rejected him.

So all in all, a killer made good, a creep to a woman with sort of a heart of gold — you can see why this specific death is one mired in controversy— and the ever grand people of Twitter weighed in—

  • It’s a controversial decision but hey — Snape’s not as bad as Voldermort— and as we all know Voldermort is not as bad as Donald Trump.

What do you think though? Does JK Rowling have anything to apologize about or is Snape a complex goon who got what was coming to him? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
