Fans of Corden were in for a shock, and fans of Harry Styles — that teen sensation from One Direction — were in for a thrill when Harry Styles himself came out to give the monologue for the Late Late Show! It’s an odd choice — the musician is not a comedian, and isn’t exactly adored by the Late Late Show audience. He delivered jokes about Trump (being named employee of the month by Russians), Hillary’s Move Forward Together PAC (and about how it’s six months too late) — and about how hackers stole the new Pirates of the Caribbean calling it a pirated video. Good work, friend.

Honestly folks, it’s a tiny bit stilted, but I’m sure original host James Corden would be deeply weird as a teen heart throb. Harry Styles hosted the entire show with very mixed results — but it’s deeply interesting to watch. Watching the host of One Direction make jokes about himself as if everyone is aware of who he is is one of those pop culture oddities sure to live on for a while. But if you’re looking for an odd couple late night switch up — here’s Kermit the Frog hosting the Tonight Show well back when.
