Hundred Million Year Old WASP Named In David Bowie’s Honor

David Bowie’s effect on music, movies and just all of culture (especially when it comes to glorious androgynous space men bringing rock to our nation of square youths from beyond the stars). Even after his death his influence continues to grow with albums such as Blackstar and EP’s such as No Plan. However, there’s one genre of writing and glory that David Bowie has not yet entered into — and that’s wasp names. Yes, try as hard as he might (he did not try), he simply could not get a hundred million year old wasp named after him — that is until today!

A wasp — named the Archaeoteleia astropulvis — and astro pulvis is Latin for ‘star dust’, after Bowie’s famed Ziggy Stardust character from “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars”, his legendary album. So now next time you go back in time and are stung by a wasp, don’t get upset, just go “Ah, what an honor it is to be such a part of rock history”.
