  • Imagine this blog post brought to you by an owl — an owl coming to you in your absolutely lowest moment. He brings this blog on a kindle. And you read it and discover that indeed — it is the 20th Anniversary of Harry Potter! Grab a glass of Butterbeer, fair muggle, and rejoice!

  • Fans all over the internet are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the beautiful and brilliant world JK Rowling originally created in 1997 with the British release of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. All over the internet we’re seeing people celebrate it. One only needs to hit the hashtag #HarryPotter20 to see countless and countless fans discussing what the book meant to them. On Facebook, typing the word “Harry Potter” or any of the four houses of Hogwarts (Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepufff, Slytherin), a little wand comes to your screen and sparkles it up with a little magic.

Folks, I am a wizard, now.

  • The book’s reasons for popularity are infinite — for one it’s a wonderful tome that always hits adolescents at the perfect moment — when people are searching for identity, Harry Potter is whisked away into a world that is all about that, on a level more outrageous than our very own. It’s a fantasy universe that’s both serious, sweet and intense — showing the deep weird feeling of growing up — and if you were a fan of a specific age you did grow up with it. I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone at 11 — the same age as Harry Potter was in the first book, and read the final book at 20. If you’re a millennial, you grew up with this series, so the twentieth anniversary of this — to say its meaningful — is an understatement.
