  • Awww, shoot! Just when I was getting ready to settle in for a marathon viewing of Zootopia! Disney announced that it is getting ready to pull all of its content off of Netflix in order to begin its own streaming service which is set to begin in 2019. When Disney announced its partnership with Netflix it was considered a big deal, as Netflix was prepared to receive Disney content only a few months after it originally premiered in theaters. This gave us the live action Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon, Star Wars: Rogue One, Zootopia, Moana and a slew of Marvel fare.

  • Disney announcing its beginning its own streaming service is another step into a very new market where more and more companies abandon old ways of thinking for streaming services — some of them diverse such as Hulu or Netflix — but some of them focused on a specific market such as HBOGo or SeeSo, the comedy only streaming service. Jury is still out on wether or not the market can handle so many competing streaming services, some of them producing original content, but if anyone can lead the way I’m sure it’s the company that casually owns 90% of the world’s store of popular franchises.
