  • Harvey Weinstein is a powerful force in the world of film — having been a figurehead in the 90’s indie film movement and having begun the careers of Quentin Tarantino Kevin Smith and many others. This is all to establish who this guy is and not at all to excuse that a recent New York Times article alleges that Harvey Weinstein has sexually harassed many, many, many of his female employees throughout his career, abusing his power in Hollywood to attempt to get sex and sexual situations (such as massages or making people watch him shower). The New York Times article can be read here.

Accusers are in the high numbers and include actresses Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd and many, many former assistants. Some were tasked with helping Harvey Weinstein in his personal home, during which he would try to corner them, and make big professional promises in exchange for sexual favors.

Rumblings of this story began yesterday when it was discovered that Harvey Weinstein has gotten the lawyer who represented Hulk Hogan in the trial that ended up destroying Gawker, and a lawyer well known for dealing with sexual harassment claims. Still, these are very heavy accusations, and they will not go away with merely a lawsuit. If anything, the lawsuit only proves further the rumors that Harvey Weinstein pressures people using his power to make stories of his harassment disappear. Indeed, the article is littered with stories of him paying women off after harassment claims sprung forward. Each of them so similar — a man bringing people to his place of work and pressuring them to either watch him bathe, engage in massage or more.
