  • Unilever, the makers of Dove soap, are apologizing for a Facebook advertisement that was called out by social media as racist.

Dove is in hot water over an ad that depicts a black woman turning into a white woman.

It comes from a 3 second video Dove posted on its Facebook page showing 3 women of different ethnicities, each removing a t-shirt with matching skin tones to reveal the next.

The ad was called out by Nay The Mua on Facebook, where it quickly went viral.

Nay tried to ask Dove about the ad through Facebook.

Nay tells Dove, “I gonna just say grab a black person at your company and ask their honest opinion on this ad. What’s the message here?” Dove responds, “The content featured demonstrates the benefits of our Dove Body Wash for every type of skin!” Nay responds, “Did you grab that black person at your company though?”

Dove’s small advertisement caused a huge social media controversy.

So what’s going on at Dove?

Dove has issued an apology for advertisement, saying, “An image we recently posted on Facebook missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully. We deeply regret the offense it caused.”

    But reactions remain divided.
