When Alec Baldwin puts on his disgusting jowly prosthetics to play Donald Trump on SNL, it is always a mini event to enjoy, and this year SNL’s greatest characters have all been members of the Trump administration. Although missing Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer aside (due to the real Sean Spicer being you know — gone from the administration), we have some of the best of the best. Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump, Cecily Strong as Melania Trump, Mikey Day as Donald Trump Jr., Alex Moffatt as Eric Trump, Aidy Bryant as Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Beck Bennett as Mike Pence. Each one comes in, hangs up an ornament of a Trump appointee long gone, and disappears into the darkness.
Some special appearances included Scarlett Johansson returning as the famously complicit Ivanka Trump, and the sketch then goes to one of the greatest characters finds of 2017 — Kate MacKinnon’s repulsively possum like Jeff Sessions. Look, are we sad that Kate McKinnon couldn’t regularly play Clinton. I mean, that’s not the WORST part about Clinton losing the presidency clearly, but it’s not a good part either! The sketch ends with Leslie Jones as Omarosa banging on the window trying to get back in. Leslie Jones is too likable to play any part of that den of goblins, but I’m glad she could be there to smash at a window as Alec Baldwin in a rubber mask looked on.
