  • In terms of YouTubers going mainstream, there were few stories more inspiring than that of Casey Neistat and Beme. Unfortunately, Beme is now fading away after CNN has dropped the channel, causing Casey Neistat, and Beme co-founder Matt Hackett, to leave CNN.

Beme was originally meant to be CNN’s foray into digital video aimed specifically at the YouTube audience. However, the channel was dogged by creative conflicts and a slow release process that made the channel ultimately not work for CNN. Neistat himself ended up feeling this was the wrong place for him, saying —

I couldn’t find answers. I would sort of disappear, and I would hide, and I would make YouTube videos for my channel because at least I would be able to yield something…I don’t think I’m giving CNN what I want to give them, and I don’t think they’re getting value from me.

Neistat addressed his departure on his personal YouTube channel saying that Beme is going to be absorbed into CNN, and he and Hackett are ready to move on. He makes references to Beme living on, though reports discuss it being shut down. We will have to wait and see the fate of Beme.
