  • Johannes Bartl is a unique presence in the world of Internet creators. He is a bodybuilder, a vegan, and much like the great action stars of the 1980’s — all of that is anchored in goofy and fun charisma. For the first in a series of Creator Spotlights — where we spotlight YouTube and Instagram’s best and brightest — we’ve interviewed Johannes about his projects, his influences, and more.

  • Johannes! Hello! Now, you and I know I’m a big fan of your brand, but how would you describe what you do to our readers?

Well thank you thats always nice to hear! If I had to describe my work I’d say that I am an actor with a big passion for fitness who’s sharing fictional but also non-fictional stories in form of short films, skits and sketches. Besides that I’m currently working on my website on which I’ll be sharing all my secrets about fitness which is a very exciting project.

Where did your passion for bodybuilding originate? And how did your decision to bring your passion for health and bodybuilding to a bigger audience originate as well?

I was in the lucky position that my parents supported my passion for fitness which lead to me being part of a soccer, volleyball, tennis and swim team at one point. When I grew older I discovered bodybuilding and it’s effects on the human physique. Especially after watching my hero Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator I was determined to create a physique as impressive as his. Keep in mind that I was about 12 years old and all I had was myself. No gym membership or access to weights. So I started with Push Ups, Sit Ups and Pull Ups. I was hooked after the first workout. Today I work out on a daily basis and have over 18 years of experience in the field of fitness. This motivated me to start the website to share this knowledge with my fans so they don’t make the same mistakes I made.

How did you get into veganism and how does your vegan diet impact your work out abilities?

When I was 26 years old I challenged myself to gain as much muscle mass as possible while still maintaining a six pack. After 6 months of eating massive amounts of meat and carbs like rice and potatoes I didn’t feel comfortable anymore. I achieved my goal but was tired of forcing myself to eat that much meat. So I tried a vegan diet for 30 days, lost a lot of weight but felt way better. After the challenge I tried to eat meat again but my body immediately rejected it. That was my sign that a plant based diet is right for me. My current diet boosts my energy levels and keeps me focused throughout the day which is key to me. I also recover faster from workouts and it’s easier to stay lean!

Who’s your your collab squad and how do you raise each other consistently?

I don’t have a collab squat but I do have a great group of friends I like to shoot with. Since everybody is so busy nowadays it’s hard to “collab” regularly but the people I shoot the most content with are Amanda Cerny, Mark Dohner and George Janko.

Where do you hope to take all this in the future? What is your dream project?

I want to take this to the big screen. I’ve loved action movies since I was a child and this hasn’t changed a bit. My dream project is to star in an action movie alongside my childhood heros Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

Who are your influences when it comes to both making YouTube videos and body building?

When it comes to YouTube I don’t really have that many role models or people who influence me. I like to show what I do and keep it as raw as possible. Obviously when I’m acting in short films or sketches I want to keep the quality high to showcase my acting skills. As for bodybuilding – the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger. He’s been an inspiration and one of my biggest role models! Not only because he’s from Austria but also his achievements in bodybuilding and the film industry are incredible. I also want to mention Greg Plitt who passed away in 2015. His mentality towards fitness and life helped me through some hard times when I was younger.

Videos such as “The Magic Pill” showed your abilities for choreographed fighting. It was like a little action movie. Is that a world you want to move into at all?

  • Absolutely! This is the main goal after all. To act in an action movie has been a dream of mine for a very long time. The Magic Pill was just the beginning. I’m determined to produce more engaging action sketches with special effects this year!

What’s something you’d like to see change in the world of social media creators? It’s a world that’s come under some scrutiny as of late — both from the sides of the creators and that of the platform — what is a way it could improve?

I think an important step for the future is that platforms communicate more with their content creators. I always say that communication is key and I’m sure if there was more transparency with new updates/features there would be more high quality content online.

Do you have any advice out there for anyone interested about beginning a serious work out process but nervous to begin?

The best way to start a workout routine is to get started right away! If you have that initial motivation to work out, don’t let go of it. You don’t need a gym membership or expensive equipment. Start with bodyweight exercises and make it a habit. Set a goal to do a workout a day for 30 days straight and tell your partner or friend about it to join you! This way you won’t skip a workout ;)!

In one of your newest videos you mentioned a series you were working on. You mentioned an NDA that stopped you from discussing it, but I was curious if there was any information you could give us about it!

Yes that’s another exciting project I’m working on. Unfortunately I can’t say too much about it but it is a fitness series where I’ll be working with top influencers, actors, dancers, musicians, athletes and many more on their fitness goals!
