Rihanna Furious at Snapchat for Tasteless “Slap Rihanna” Ad

Despite the best efforts of a certain dancing hot dog, Snapchat has been having a lot of overwhelming troubles as of late. One tweet from Kylie Jenner caused their stock to bump (and buddy, you know you’re in a fragile place when a celebrity tweet can give your fortune a hit). However, it’s hard to have a lot of sympathy for Snapchat when they’re posting ads like this.

Snapchat. What on Earth is this? You made an ad asking viewers if they would beat up Rihanna in order to sell teens on using a filter where they look like dogs? What’s the thinking behind this? Have you seen how woke teens are these days? You think this is how you market to them?

Rihanna herself replied to this entire awful mess on Instagram (naturally), saying —

Now SNAPCHAT I know you already know you ain’t my fav app out there! But I’m just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess! I’d love to call it ignorance, but I know you ain’t that dumb! You spent money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to DV* victims and make a joke of it!!! This isn’t about my personal feelings, cause I don’t have much of them…but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven’t made it out yet… you let us down! Shame on you. Throw the whole app-oligy away.

Not only did Rihanna drag Snapchat, but she made a dope app/apology pun! Rihanna, is there any wonder you’re so beloved? Snapchat told The Hollywood Reporter: “This advertisement is disgusting and never should have appeared on our service. We are so sorry we made the terrible mistake of allowing it through our review process. We are investigating how that happened so that we can make sure it never happens again.”

However, we don’t know what kind of a future an app that’s been dragged by Rihanna for something so tasteless has. Do we have a video of Snapchat during this difficult time?
