  • Last week we saw the demand for action on gun control for students reach a milestone, when students all over the United States marched outside of their school for seventeen minutes — a minute for each of the dead. To celebrate their cause, Lin Manuel Miranda of Hamilton and Curb Your Enthusiasm fame, and Ben Platt — the star of the award-winning Dear Evan Hansen — crossed over their musical stylings in order to produce a song in support of the students who made the brave decision to walk out.

The song in question — “Found Tonight” — mashes up “The Story of Tonight” from Hamilton and “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen. The result is a beautiful and emotional song that mixes the weight of history that these walk outs reflect with the added weight of being teenagers and having the needs of the world on your shoulders. It’s a powerful song, and the best thing is, it keeps this very important movement from slipping into the background just as the NRA no doubt wants it to go away the most.

Emma Gonzales, a leader of the Parkland Teens fighting for gun control, has replied in a positive way to the song.
