  • Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon, best known for playing Miranda, has challenged New York governor Andrew Cuomo for the seat. Cuomo is currently in his second term and is challenged by Nixon who promises a New York that is, according to her website, “A New York for the many, not just the few.”

Even though Bernie Sanders lost the Democratic primary, it feels like he won a much more important fight — showing the possibility of hard left politics making not only change but the long-awaited change in mainstream politics. Slowly, we see new challengers pick up his mantle, and some of them come from very unlikely sources. Enter: Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon. She was best known for starring as Miranda on the long-running HBO show and movie franchise and now challenges Andrew Cuomo. Her biggest issues are based on his centrist democrat stance and the financial state New York is finding itself in — with the distance between rich and poor being greater than it is than in any other city. Cynthia Nixon hopes to undo that and I hope so as well. New York is too beautiful a city to be undone by classist politics keeping people from moving into it.

Unlike the candidacy of Kid Rock, Nixon’s run has excited folks online, and we wish her the best of luck. What do you think of her running though? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
