  • I don’t think I would ever see the Internet try to parent shame an animal, but here we are! Bald eagles have had a huge week on the Internet, whether they’re attacking players on the Seattle Mariners or — in this case — having a surprisingly relatable response to the 5.3 magnitude earthquake in Southern California yesterday. In the beginning of the video, we can see the bald eagle sitting by and watching its beautiful resting brood of eagle children. Then, the ground shakes and the eagle flies off! Its babies, unsure of what to do, rise their little heads out in confusion, and when the earthquake subsides the eagle returns.

The good people of Twitter, perfect eagle parents themselves no doubt, expressed shock over the mighty majestic bird abandoning its children in what seemed like an act of cowardice! Nay proclaimed the explore.org Twitter feed! You see, the eagle was, in fact, unsure of what the threat was, and flew off in order to get the threat to focus on themselves in case it was a predator. Perfect!

Also, novelist Terry McMillan tried to shame the eagle and was the person the website responded to, which I think is fun.
