  • The Parkland Shooting has unearthed an all important discussion about the roles of gun control in our society. Some make the very compelling case that we should make it much harder to obtain guns, while opponents of gun control have stated that the way to curb school shootings is to arm teachers. Well, one school in Pennsylvania, I guess, found a middle ground between the two camps by arming teachers with… tiny bats.

Yup — tiny sixteen-inch baseball bats.

According to the Superintendent, one William Hall, the bats are meant as a last resort to fight back against shooters.

We passed them out, with the goal being we wanted every room to have one of these. Unfortunately, we’re in a day and age where one might need to use them to protect ourselves and our kids.

Parents, however, are frustrated. Mother, Jo Ellen Barish, says —

It’s not going to make some shooter stop and say, ‘Hey, I probably shouldn’t go in and do this. The people who do these things aren’t planning on getting away alive. It’s not like they have a fear of being hurt.

Look, if guns are readily available with that ridiculous ease, mass shootings probably and tragically won’t stop in America. Arming teachers isn’t the answer, but giving them tiny wooden bats that would be weak against a full-size bat? Well, that’s just crazy. Which is why I’m writing about it, I guess.

What do you think of the tiny bat move? Will they help stop mass shootings? Probably not, right? Anyway, tell us what you think in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
