  • In a chilling video, we see police try to talk down the driver of a van in Toronto that drove into a crowd — killing 9 pedestrians and injuring 16. The man in question was detained by the police without a shot fired in a tense standoff that was captured on video (found above). At first, the violent perpetrator points a cell phone as a gun at the officer and asks him to shoot him in the head. The officer does not. The perpetrator claims he has a gun in his pocket as the officer continues moving forward until finally pushing him to the ground and handcuffing him.

The lack of deaths in a standoff this tense, with the officer holding a gun and the perpetrator showing both violent tendencies and threatening to kill more, is incredible police work, and it’s something to strive for. The tragedy in Toronto is terrible, and our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
