  • At the 2013 Miss USA Beauty Pageant on Sunday night, Miss Utah, Marissa Powell, received the following set-up: “A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners yet they continue to earn less than men. What does this say about society?”

Unable to deliver a coherent response under pressure, Miss Utah offered a botched answer about education reform and job creation, which included the phrase, “We need to figure out how to create education better.”

Deadspin calls this the worst beauty pageant answer since Miss Teen South Carolina‘s flub in 2007. Only now, even more people are using social media to mock the contestants.
