Viral on Tumblr: Nigel Thornberry Remixes When Tumblr user BitCrunch created a mash-up of Katy Perry’s “Firework” with the incoherent ramblings of a old Nickelodeon character, he had no idea that he would be creating a massive Tumblr audio fad.

Nigel Thornberry’s now famous “blargarg” noise from the 90s cartoon series The Wild Thornberrys has now dubbed into dozens of popular songs by Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Justin Bieber and even everyone’s favorite poptart-wearing space feline: Nyan Cat. Check out Know Your Meme’s entry for more videos.

  • LulzSec Retires The mischievous hacker group LulzSec announced their retirement earlier this week after 50 days of hacking and vandalizing high profile targets including FOX, SONY, PBS, and even the CIA. They’ve since passed the torch of Operation Anti-Security, a large scale operation meant to undermine government classified information, over to the nebulous group of hackers known as Anonymous. For more info, check out the Know Your Meme entry.

Viral on Twitter: First World Problems The frustrations of privileged citizens around the world became a trending topic on Twitter this week with “#firstworldproblems,” a hashtag used to make light of the minor inconveniences that people of advanced societies often complain about, like having too many tabs open or being hungry after brushing teeth. While the hashtag has been circulating for several months, a music video recently uploaded by YouTuber funnyz entitled “The First World Problems Rap” seems to have contributed to its trending status.

  • Bill Clinton Answers Questions on My Little Pony The online epidemic of the cartoon series “My Little Pony” reached a IRL milestone on last Sunday, when President Bill Clinton was asked trivia questions about the for-girls cartoon show during his appearance on NPR. Since as early as in January this year, character images of equestrian cartoon series began to surface on 4chan imageboard, spawning an ironic fan culture of “/bronies” across other young male-oriented online communities, spawning a dazzling array of image macros, remix videos and mashups sampling pop music and films https://helmii.com. For the record, President Clinton did answer all three multiple choice questions correctly.

Meanwhile in Mexico… The word “FUA” is the latest viral joke in Mexico after a local news site in Nayarit (Nayaritenlinea.mx) posted an interview clip with a man who drunkenly claimed to havepsychic powers using what he describes as “FUA,” a rather confusing concept of using inner energy somewhat comparable to the idea of Chi in Eastern cultures. Since its upload earlier this Monday, the video gained over 1 million views and spread through Twitter with the hashtag #FUAAA, eventually becoming a global trending topic on the next day.
