#CaseyAnthonyVerdict The Internet was abuzz this week with the trial verdict of Casey Anthony, a 25-year-old woman from Florida who was charged on suspicion of murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee back in October 2008. As the three year long trial came to an end on Tuesday afternoon, the public expressed their outrage and disgust over the jury’s “not guilty” verdict, triggering a whirlwind of social media frenzy on Twitter and Facebook.

According to the news site AllFacebook, up to ten status updates relating to the trial were posted every second while the social intelligence firm Crimson Hexagon reported over 325,283 tweets relating to Casey Anthony were posted on Tuesday. Internet’s jokesters also responded with a variety of image macros, many of them drawing references to the trial of OJ Simpson, the Kanye West interruption, as well as the fictional protagonist from the cable TV show Dexter.

The First Presidential Rage Face: Obama “Not Bad” A United States president has finally been immortalized in the medium of Rage Comics!

A photograph of President Obama wearing a pronounced frown during his visit to the Buckingham Palace was turned into a black-and-white outline drawing with the words “Not Bad” displayed underneath. The face is typically used in comics as a final panel to express approval, and a Michele Obama version has since been created.

To Catch A Predator Host Chris Hansen Caught Cheating Last Thursday, the 52-year-old former host of NBC’s “To Catch A Predator” was outed by The National Enquirer for cheating on his wife with a 30 year-old Florida news anchor. In 2007, Hansen became a popular figure on the Anonymous online community 4chan for his association with the investigative news series, and has been since portrayed as the nemesis to Pedobear, an imaginary cartoon bear that somehow came to symbolize pedophilia. Considering Hansen’s public image as a vigilant journalist chasing after individuals attempting sexual misconduct, the story of his affair came as especially ironic to those who were aware of his iconic status on the web.

Meanwhile in China: Jiang Zemin is Dead? Anonymous netizens baffled the Chinese authorities earlier this week, when a baseless rumor surfaced that the former Chinese president Jiang Zemin has passed away from ailments. The rumor began when Zemin took absence from the 90th anniversary of the Community Party held in Beijing last week, leading some Chinese Facebook users to suspect that the aging Chinese leader has already deceased or is in critical condition. Within days, this rumor became even more inflated as online news sites in the mainland and Hong Kong released further speculations about Jiang Zemin’s potential health issues, eventually prompting Chinese censors to block Internet users from searching the keyword “Jiang Zemin.”

Philosoraptor Philosoraptor is an image macro series featuring a clip art of Velociraptor deeply immersed in metaphysical inquiries or unraveling quirky paradoxes. One of the more thoughtful and successful Advice Dog variations, the Philosoraptor image was originally created as a T-shirt design for LonelyDinosuar.com in the summer of 2008, but it took on an entirely new meaning later that same year when it was paired up with a series of riddles, puns and word games on 4chan’s /b/ board. Today, Philosoraptor still remains one of the most popular image macro series with at least 38,000 instances available online.
