The rumor began when Zemin took absence from the 90th anniversary of the Community Party held in Beijing last week, leading some Chinese Facebook users to suspect that the aging Chinese leader has already deceased or is in critical condition. Within days, this rumor became even more inflated as online news sites in the mainland and Hong Kong released further speculations about Jiang Zemin’s potential health issues, eventually prompting Chinese censors to block Internet users from searching the keyword “Jiang Zemin.”
