You might have a hard time dealing with change, but get used to it: Facebook has updated itself yet again. Now, the News Feed will show you the most interesting updates (determined from how many people comment on statuses and photos) rather than a constant stream of your friend’s musings. A ticker on the right side of the page shows you status updates in real time. For a detailed description of all the recent changes, Facebook has a video explaining how it all works.
“Now, News Feed will act more like your own personal newspaper. You won’t have to worry about missing important stuff. All your news will be in a single stream with the most interesting stories featured at the top. If you haven’t visited Facebook for a while, the first things you’ll see are top photos and statuses posted while you’ve been away. They’re marked with an easy-to-spot blue corner,” they explain on the Facebook blog.
Instead of constantly refreshing, you will now have a handy button that shows how many updates have happened since you started viewing the page. However, if there’s someone you need to particularly keep an eye on, you can use your automatically generated “smart lists” that you can sort into your family, close friends, acquaintances and those people you met during that one crazy night at that place. (Just kidding about the last one. Facebook isn’t that smart… yet.)
According to USA Today, though, people aren’t happy with the changes. #NewFacebook is trending on the Twitter and Google as people try to figure out what these changes all mean. In the USA Today poll, 82 percent of the people dislike the new update.
