  • Netflix has not had much to crow about over the last month or so, but today at the annual F8 conference they made a big announcement for everyone on Facebook…who’s not in the U.S.

Netflix CEO and co-founder, Reed Hastings

  • Facebook board member and Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings took the stage at F8 to announce the Netflix app for Facebook’s Open Graph platform that will make discovery of movies and TV tremendously more social for users in 44 of the 45 countries where Facebook is available.

The app is not available in the U.S. due to a privacy law that is currently under review. If the law is repealed, Facebook users will be able to see which movies and TV shows their friends are watching on Netflix and even click on the content to watch it without leaving Facebook. Hastings expressed that recommendations from what friends are watching trumps Netflix’s own recommendation algorithm.

You could sense the combination of frustration and excitement from U.S. users online.

  • Are you looking forward to the Netflix app on Facebook?
