Can China Really Control the Internet?

  • Our panel was a bit surprised at how harsh the new rules in China seemed, but agreed the control that the government is seeking will only work up to a point.

    “At the end of the day there are so many ways for people to get information through things like this,” Alex Albrecht said referring to the new restrictions. He then went on to coin the phrase, “social bomb,” which is a device planted in a public area to provide open wifi.

    Although some of the conversation may have contained conjecture, the panel agreed that the increasing capabilities of technology make stopping people from expressing themselves difficult.
