  • Using social media to its full potential helped President Barack Obama gain voters during the 2008 election and during his tenure as the commander-in-chief, Obama has established a tradition of using social media as a tool for social engagement.

On Monday, Obama will continue this practice by hosting a Google+ hangout sponsored by YouTube. Starting at 5:30 p.m. EST inside the Roosevelt Room of the West Wing, President Obama will be answering questions submitted through YouTube from a pool of 133,214.

The event is being billed as “Your Interview with the President: A post-State of the Union Conversation.”

In all, 228,014 people submitted questions, and users were asked to vote on the questions they thought the most essential or important. In total, 1,630,627 votes were cast. The top five questions can be seen on The White House’s YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/whitehouse.

The White House’s Google+ page is also posting behind the scenes photos and information before the airing of the interviewing. In the meantime, you can see some behind the scenes pics on Steve Grove’s page. Grove is the head of community partnerships at Google+ and will be conducting the interview.
