Derrick Ashong (Al Jazeera’s The Stream, Million Download Campaign) and Diem Brown (MTV’s The Challenge, Medgift.com) discuss if they like or dislike Facebook now allowing to you to display your organ donor status.
An estimated 114,000 people in the United States are waiting for an organ donor and of that, 92,000 are waiting for kidneys.
Diem Brown on liking on being able to display your organ donation status on Facebook:
“I really like it, to be honest. First of all, its your choice to put it on their. It’s not required. Second of all, organ donating is just so important. So many lives are lost because they don’t match correctly….”
Derrick Ashong on the one thing that bothers him about this story:
“The one thing I read in some of the articles that is troubling to me is that they were saying that it might be a good thing that there is a little bit of peer pressure to list yourself. But I don’t think this is the kind of thing that should be done under peer pressure. It’s really serious.”
