This time around, he’s upping the stakes with a wartime plot and George Clooney on board as a co-producer.
Set in 1979 during the Iran hostage crisis, the film follows a CIA mission to rescue six U.S. soldiers who evaded the hostage takeover and have found shelter at the Canadian ambassador’s home. The plan to bring them back safely? Convince the Iranian embassy that the missing six are really members of a film crew on a movie titled Argo. Then, simply extract them from the country under fake identities.
The film stars Affleck, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, and John Goodman. And the supporting cast is not to be looked over lightly, including industry vets Victor Garber, Clea Duvall, and Richard Kind.
