Acclaimed director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Brokeback Mountain) and screenwriter David Magee are joining 20th Century Fox in bringing Life of Pi to the screen, a film based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel of the same name.
The movie presents a coming-of-age tale about a young boy who survives a sunken freight ship only to find himself sharing a lifeboat with some unexpected companions: a hyena, an injured zebra, an orangutan, and a predatory Bengal tiger. The film stars Tobey Maguire, Suraj Sharma, Irffan Khan, Gerard Depardieu, and Adil Hussain.
Lee’s visually stunning trailer is likely just a taste of what’s to come when Life of Pi hits theaters on November 21, 2012 in 3D and 2D.
