  • According to Google, “The next chapter of the Internet starts here.”

Google is rolling out its new Internet and television services, with access speed that is more than 100 times faster than we’ve ever had with broadband.

Google Fiber and Google Fiber TV, which are getting their test runs right now in Kansas City, function at the rate of 1 gigabyte per second. Google translates that to “instantaneous sharing; truly global education; medical appointments with 3D imaging; even new industries that we haven’t even dreamed of, powered by a gig.”

For $120 a month, Google’s joint services allow users to search over 100 networks in addition to live channels, Netflix, YouTube, recorded shows and tens of thousands of hours of on-demand programming. Customers can also record eight shows at a time and store up to 500 hours of HD programming. And the remote control? Either a tablet, smartphone, or just voice activation.

While the package includes major networks under Comcast Corp’s NBC Universal, Discovery Communications and Viacom Inc, serious complaints are already surfacing about how HBO, AMC, ESPN, Time Warner and Disney-owned channels didn’t make the cut.

Still, the future of the Internet is waiting! Will you sign up for Google Fiber?
