Serena Williams Crip Walks After Winning Olympic Gold (WATCH)

  • After shutting down Maria Sharapova in the Olympic gold medal tennis match on Sunday with a score of  6-0, 6-1, Serena Williams took her time to soak in Olympic glory by jumping into a brief but controversial crip walk, a dance move commonly associated with gang members from her hometown of Compton.

There was definitely cause for celebration, as Williams became only the second woman to complete a career Golden Grand Slam, taking home Olympic Gold after having won the Grand Slam (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open).

Still, many were perturbed by her post-game display, such as Jason Whitlock of MSN Fox Sports, who wrote:

Serena deserved to be criticized and she should’ve immediately apologized. Wimbledon isn’t the place to break out a dance popularized by California Crip gang members. She knows it. That’s why she got embarrassed when asked by reporters to reveal the name of the dance.

What do you think? Was she wrong to pull the stunt or should she be left alone? Here’s SB Nation’s GIF which loops the moment for a better look:
