  • YouTuber outdoors2stay recorded a small plane crashing into a field of trees from the point of view of the cockpit. His entire video, which is roughly seven minutes long, starts with the plane taking off and it lasts until the passenger was able to find his camera in the wreckage and record the injuries.

This morning, CBS reported that the man who filmed the incident is Tol Gropp. Gropp’s father was the pilot and his two friends rode in the back seat. All survived but Gropp’s father is recovering from a broken jaw and cheekbone.

The caption on Gropp’s video reads:

Due to warming temperatures there was an increase in density altitude and we had a hard time getting adequate lift. After taking off we hit an air pocket that made us rapidly loose altitude, pushing us down into the trees…Thank you to all the many individuals who eventually came to our aid and took the time and effort to help in any way they could. We appreciate you more than you know.
