  • Teens, tweens, and fangirls of past and present converged last night to celebrate the biggest boy band of today and the best girl band of yesteryear (meaning the ’90s). What do both have in common? Their British roots, of course.

The London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony featured iconic U.K. musical acts such as Ray Davies, George Michael, Annie Lennox, Eric Idle, and The Who.

But the most buzz? It was definitely afforded to One Direction and the Spice Girls, with “1D Owns The World” trending Worlwide on Twitter throughout the multi-hour long event.

The Spice Girls reunited to perform their hits “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life,” after One Direction made an appearance as the youngest performers of the evening with their chart-topper “What Makes You Beautiful.”

How do you think the five-person pop groups did?

  • And here’s some Twitter action from the ladies themselves, you know, for ’90s nostalgia’s sake.
