  • Sunday, August 19 on The Jaco Report, Missouri Senate nominee Todd Akin was asked whether or not he thinks abortion should be legal in cases of rape. He’d later regret his poorly worded answer, which was:

It seems to me, first of all, from what I understand from doctors…if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

Akin is now taking heat for his response, with the Romney campaign distancing itself from the remarks and Democrats eager to blow them in up in the face of the opposition.

On Monday, Akin was a guest on Mike Huckabee’s talk radio show, where he apologized for his gaffe, clarified that he will not be dropping his bid for the Senate seat, and explained that he meant to say “forcible rape,” not “legitimate rape.”
