On Monday, Mother Jones posted a “secret” video of Mitt Romney speaking to donors at a $50,000/plate, intimate fundraiser on May 17 in Boca Raton, Florida. A flurry of media headlines soon erupted, with many speculating as to the ramifications of Romney’s comments.
The MotherJonesVideo YouTube channel continued to publish clips from the event, showing Romney’s take on a range of topics, including the economy, Obama’s foreign policy, and conflict in the Middle East.
According to Visible Measures, by Tuesday afternoon, there were already 55 associated clips floating around YouTube, which, combined, surpassed 2 million views.
Boasting 1.8 million+ views alone, the most cited video has been the original from Mother Jones, entitled, “Mitt Romney on Obama Voters,” in which Romney says:
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what…there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them…these are people who pay no income tax…[M]y job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
In response to media pressure and Romney’s impromptu press conference, Mother Jones uploaded the full coverage of the event, which clocks in at roughly 50 minutes and is divided into two segments, featured above and below.
