  • Having just released his debut album, “I’m Right Here,” on October 2, singer-songwriter Chris Rene stops by What’s Trending to perform his original tune, “Rockin’ With You,” and take questions from loyal fans, a.k.a. Reneliens.

Chris had only been sober for ten weeks and was working as a trash collector when he auditioned for the first season of “X Factor USA.” His performance of the original, autobiographical song “Young Homie,” launched him into overnight stardom and he went on to finish third in the competition, soon after singing with show mentor, LA Reid, and Epic Records.

Off the bat, Chris identifies “Tidal Wave” — available for purchase exclusively on iTunes — as a song that is particularly close to his heart. “It’s basically about what this last eight months has been in my life, with my recovery, my sons — being away from them, being on the road and not seeing family,” he says.

While the schedule and pressures of working in the music industry can be demanding, Chris wouldn’t want to be doing anything else. “I love music so much,” he says. “I get to touch people’s hearts with my message of ‘love life.’ That’s what it’s about.”

With the second season of “The X Factor USA” in full swing, Chris already has a favorite contestant! He’s rooting for David Correy as the show heads into the Judges Houses stage tonight on FOX.

And now that Chris has launched his own career, we have to know — what’s the best advice that LA Reid has given him? Chris is ready with his answer. “Here’s the main thing: be yourself.”
